The Structure of the Ontario Association of Osteopaths
The OAO's Board of Directors has 9 members. They are elected every year by the members. The Board of Directors then elect an Executive Committee. The Executive Committee is made up of:
- the president
- 2 vice presidents
- the secretary
- the treasurer
The Association's other committees are:
- Governance
- Registration (its goals are in Article 9 of the By-laws)
- Education
- Insurance
Levels of Membership
There are 3 levels of membership in the Association — active, affiliate, and supporting. The By-laws state that active members must be Canadian citizens and either a graduate of or a student in an osteopathic college that is recognized by the OAO Board. The Board has recognized osteopathic colleges in Canada and in other countries.
Active members of the OAO can:
- vote
- hold office in the association
- be a committee volunteer
- receive various notices and publications
- get discounts on OAO seminars and workshops
Affiliate members of the OAO
- an be a volunteer on a committee
- do not have the right to vote
- may apply to become an active member of the OAO if they are Canadian citizens
- receive various notices and publications
- get discounts on OAO seminars and workshops
Supporting members of the OAO
- do not have the right to vote
- receive the same notices and publications from the OAO as active and affiliate members do
- get discounts on OAO seminars and workshops
All potential members are admitted to the Association via a resolution of the Board.
Meetings
The Board of Directors meets monthly. All OAO members are welcome to attend.
An annual general meeting is held in the fall. All members and other people who are interested are welcome to attend, but only active OAO members have the right to vote.
